TEHRAN: An Iranian Army helicopter crashed into a fruit market in Dorcheh city, central Isfahan province, on Tuesday, killing the pilot, co-pilot, and two merchants, state media reported.
The aircraft struck the market and caused a fire, which was later extinguished by emergency services, according to the reports.
The incident comes just a week after a US-built F-4 fighter jet of Iran’s Air Force crashed during a training flight in Hamadan province, killing the pilot.
Many of Iran’s military aircraft were purchased before the 1979 Islamic Revolution, and repeated accidents have raised concerns about the country’s air safety record, state and international analysts say.
Repeated accidents involving older aircraft have raised concerns about Iran’s air safety record, particularly for military helicopters and jets purchased before the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
State media highlighted that both the military crew and the civilian victims were among the fatalities, underlining the wider impact of such accidents in populated areas. Local authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash.
