Saudi Arabia, Turkiye Reaffirm Strategic Partnership During Erdogan Visit to Kingdom

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia and Turkiye have moved to further consolidate their strategic ties, reaffirming a joint commitment to closer cooperation and a shared responsibility for regional and global stability.

A joint statement issued at the conclusion of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s official visit to the Kingdom underscored expanding cooperation across economic, energy, defence, and political domains, while addressing key regional and international developments, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Wednesday.

President Erdogan arrived in Riyadh on Tuesday on an official visit to Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabia and Turkiye maintain important bilateral relations based on diplomatic engagement, economic cooperation, and regional coordination.

In recent years, both countries have worked to strengthen ties through high-level exchanges and dialogue on issues of mutual interest.

The relationship continues to evolve, with a focus on trade, investment, and collaboration for regional stability.

Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, on Tuesday held a meeting with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and discussed regional and international developments.

According to a joint statement, both sides commended the strength of the economic ties between the two countries and agreed on further strengthening them, particularly in sectors of mutual priority.

Free Trade Agreement

They stressed the importance of finalising negotiations for a Free Trade Agreement between the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and Turkiye.

In the energy sector, both emphasised the significance of their respective roles in making a significant contribution to the energy supply of their region and global markets.

They also agreed to enhance cooperation in the fields of oil, oil derivatives, and petrochemical supply, and to work together to exploit investment opportunities in the petrochemical and agricultural nutrients sectors, as well as to cooperate on innovative uses of hydrocarbons.

“On the defence and security front, both Sides agreed on the need to activate the agreements signed between the two countries in the areas of defence cooperation,” the statement said.

Palestine

Regarding the latest developments in Palestine, both sides expressed deep concern over the worsening humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, the continuation of Israeli aggression, and the obstruction of humanitarian assistance and border crossings.

They stressed the urgent need to intensify relief efforts in Gaza and to ensure the unimpeded opening of all crossings to facilitate the delivery of essential humanitarian aid across the Gaza Strip.

The two sides further emphasised the responsibility of the international community to exert pressure on the Israeli occupation authorities to protect civilians, refrain from targeting critical infrastructure, and fully comply with international law and international humanitarian law.

Yemen

On the Yemeni issue, both sides affirmed their support for the legitimate Yemeni government, represented by the president of the Presidential Leadership Council of the Republic of Yemen and his government.

Somalia  

On the Somali issue, both sides affirmed their unwavering support for the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and unity of Somalia, and their commitment to preserving Somalia’s stability and the prosperity and development of its people.

Syria  

On the Syrian issue, both sides commended the efforts of the brotherly Syrian government and the responsible steps and measures it has taken to preserve Syria’s security, stability, and territorial integrity.

Russia-Ukraine crisis

On the Russia–Ukraine crisis, both sides expressed firm support for a comprehensive negotiated solution, consistent with international law and the UN Charter, to ensure enduring peace and stability beyond the region.
