ISLAMABAD: The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has strongly condemned the recent coordinated terrorist attacks in Pakistan’s southwestern province of Balochistan, calling on all countries to actively cooperate with Islamabad to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.

The statement came as Pakistani security officials confirmed that 197 terrorists had been killed in counterterrorism operations over the past three days.

The attacks, claimed by the outlawed Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), targeted security installations and government facilities across multiple districts of the province. According to Pakistani authorities, more than 50 people were killed, including at least 22 members of the security forces.

Pakistan has repeatedly accused BLA militants of operating as “Indian proxies” and receiving logistical and operational support from across the border in Afghanistan.

In an official statement by the Security Council president, James Kariuki, the 15-member body said it “condemned in the strongest terms the heinous and cowardly terrorist attacks across multiple locations in Balochistan province, Pakistan, on 31st January 2026.”

The statement underscored the need to hold “perpetrators, organizers, financiers and sponsors of these reprehensible acts of terrorism accountable and bring them to justice.” It further urged all member states, in line with their obligations under international law and relevant UNSC resolutions, to actively cooperate with the Government of Pakistan in countering terrorism.

The Council noted that the attacks resulted in the deaths of Pakistani nationals, including five women and three children. Expressing solidarity, UNSC members conveyed their deepest condolences to the victims’ families and to the government and people of Pakistan, while wishing a swift and full recovery to those injured.

The Security Council reaffirmed that acts of terrorism are criminal and unjustifiable under any circumstances, regardless of their motivation. Pakistan is currently serving as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2025–26 term.
