LAHORE, Pakistan: Legendary South African batter AB de Villiers has extended high praise to the Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Lahore Qalandars, hailing the three-time champions as a standout organisation and expressing pride in his association with them.

In a special video message, the former wicketkeeper-batter commended the franchise’s management for its sustained success.

“There are a large number of T20 franchises around the world. I have always felt proud to represent certain franchises during my career,” de Villiers stated.

“Some franchises stand out due to their consistent team strength and strong values. Over the past ten years, Lahore Qalandars have remained among the top franchises. I feel proud to have represented them.”

He specifically congratulated COO Sameen Rana, Director Atif Rana, and their team for their efforts in enhancing the franchise’s stature.

“Congratulations on all that you have accomplished. Celebrate your successes,” he added, while apologising for not being able to join them in person.

He concluded by wishing the Qalandars the very best for the next decade.

The tribute comes as the league itself prepares for a landmark 11th season, set to begin on March 26.

This edition will feature significant structural changes, most notably the expansion to eight teams with the introduction of two new franchises: Hyderabad and Sialkot Stallionz.

In a major shift, the traditional players’ draft will be replaced by the PSL’s first-ever player auction, scheduled for February 11.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has already laid out a comprehensive financial framework to govern the process.

Auction Framework Announced

The PCB has set four distinct base price categories for players: PKR 4.2 crore, PKR 2.2 crore, PKR 1.1 crore, and PKR 60 lakh.

Accompanying these are specified minimum bid increments: PKR 250,000 for bids under PKR 1.1 crore, PKR 500,000 for bids under PKR 2.2 crore, PKR 1,000,000 for bids under PKR 4.2 crore, and PKR 1,500,000 for bids above PKR 4.2 crore.

Franchises retain the flexibility to bid higher than these minimum increments.

With an endorsement from a global star like de Villiers and a revamped competitive structure, anticipation is building for what promises to be a transformative season for the Pakistan Super League.
