ISLAMABAD/ BUDAPEST: An assailant stabbed a police officer to death and injured two others in the Hungarian capital Budapest on Thursday.

According to the Arab News, police received a call late on Thursday that a man had broken down the door of a neighbouring apartment in Budapest’s Újbuda district and was attempting to enter. Responding to the call, the police officers attempted to take the man into custody when he attacked them, stabbing three officers and running into a street.
The city’s police department said that one officer fired a warning shot and then shot the fleeing man in the leg. Later, the man was taken into custody and transported to the hospital along with wounded officers.
Police said that one of the officers, a 29-year-old sergeant major with Budapest’s Újbuda district police, died of his wounds in the hospital.
