DHAKA, Bangladesh: The Bangladesh Cricket Board has rejected reports that the International Cricket Council has set a final deadline for confirming venues for Bangladesh’s matches at the upcoming T20 World Cup, leaving uncertainty over where the team will play its group-stage fixtures.
The denial leaves a cloud of uncertainty over where the Tigers will play their group-stage fixtures.
The dispute stems from the BCB’s earlier refusal to play its scheduled matches in India, citing unspecified security concerns.
This has thrown the initial schedule into disarray, with the board formally requesting alternative venues.
No specific deadline from ICC
BCB Director Amzad Hossain directly refuted the circulating reports, clarifying that the global cricket governing body has not set any ultimatum.
“The ICC has not provided the board with any particular date or deadline regarding the matter,” Hossain stated.
He confirmed that Bangladesh’s request for a venue change is officially under the ICC’s consideration.
“We have formally submitted our request, which is currently under consideration,” Hossain added, emphasizing that the final decision rests with the ICC following consultations with all relevant stakeholders.
Bangladesh committed to process
Hossain assured that the board remains engaged in discussions with the ICC to find a resolution.
“The BCB remains in contact with the ICC and is committed to resolving the matter according to established rules and regulations,” he said.
The official clarification comes in response to recent reports in sections of the Indian media, which suggested the ICC had already denied Bangladesh’s request to relocate matches to Sri Lanka.
The BCB has categorically denied the veracity of these claims.
