ISLAMABAD: Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev will pay an official visit to Pakistan in February 2026, Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov said on Tuesday.

The Uzbek Foreign Minister confirmed the visit during a telephonic conversation with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.

The visit is expected to provide an opportunity for both sides to strengthen cooperation across multiple sectors and strengthen diplomatic engagement.

Both sides exchanged views on regional and international developments and agreed to further boost bilateral ties by deepening cooperation in areas of mutual interest, a Foreign Office statement said.

During the call, Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor extended Season’s greetings and best wishes for the New Year to the Deputy Prime Minister.

Over the years, the relationship between Pakistan and Uzbekistan has strengthened due to high-level interactions, increased economic partnership, and collaboration in regional and international forums.

In July this year, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Uzbekistan signed a framework agreement to conduct a joint feasibility study for a transnational railway project aimed at boosting regional connectivity and economic integration.

The project aims to establish a rail link connecting Uzbekistan with Pakistan through Afghanistan, enhancing regional trade and access to Pakistani seaports for Central Asian countries.

It may be recalled that in February 2025, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif paid an official visit to Uzbekistan with the aim of further strengthening bilateral cooperation.

The visit concluded with the signing of multiple MoUs and agreements aimed at enhancing cooperation in areas of shared interest.
