Saudi Arabia Dominates Regional Weightlifting Championships With 36-Medal Haul in Doha

Saudi lifters secure 27 gold and nine silver medals in Doha, highlighting the Kingdom’s growing strength across youth, junior and senior categories

DOHA: The Qatar International Weightlifting Cup, held concurrently with the Arab Weightlifting Championship and the West Asian Weightlifting Championship, concluded in Doha with the participation of several regional national teams.

The Saudi national weightlifting team delivered an outstanding performance, winning a total of 36 medals, including 27 gold and nine silver medals, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Tuesday.

The team participated with 36 male and female lifters across various age groups, reflecting the continued expansion and technical development of the sport in the Kingdom.

In the youth category (56 kg), Abdullah Al-Zubaidi claimed six gold medals in the snatch, clean and jerk, and total at both the Arab and West Asian championships.

Mohammed Al-Ajyan added to Saudi Arabia’s medal tally by securing 12 gold medals in the snatch, clean and jerk, and total across the youth and junior 60 kg categories in the Arab and West Asian competitions.

At the senior level, Aqeel Al-Jassim won nine gold medals in the snatch, clean and jerk, and total in the 60 kg category at the Qatar International Weightlifting Cup, as well as the Arab and West Asian championships. Mansour Al-Saleem also impressed in the same weight category, earning nine silver medals.

The strong showing underscores Saudi Arabia’s rising profile in regional weightlifting and its ongoing commitment to developing talent across all age categories.
