ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Wednesday warned that escalating global conflicts pose significant dangers to international peace, stressing that dialogue and diplomacy remain essential for resolving disputes.

The Deputy PM was addressing the Islamabad Conclave 2025 titled “Reimagining South Asia: Security, Economy, Climate, Connectivity,” on Wednesday.

Regional situation

Addressing security concerns, the deputy prime minister said the regional situation is becoming increasingly complicated.

Dar also criticised India for unilaterally suspending the Indus Waters Treaty. He reiterated that the unresolved Kashmir dispute remains a serious threat to regional stability and peace.

“Burning conflicts in the world pose dangerous risks to global peace,” Dar said, adding that even Pakistan’s May conflict with India could have escalated into something far more dangerous, but Pakistan demonstrated both resolve and capability to thwart aggression and reinforce deterrence.

Dar described South Asia as the world’s most populous region, burdened by a host of challenges such as poverty, inequality, sudden natural disasters, climate change, and food insecurity.

He noted that rising temperatures and severe flooding are already inflicting significant damage on the region’s economies.

Pakistan is ready to work with all regional partners

The Deputy Prime Minister said Pakistan remains ready to work with all willing partners to help South Asia reach its immense potential.

He identified climate change as one of the most urgent challenges, noting that rising temperatures, floods, and other environmental crises are inflicting severe damage on South Asian economies.

Dar added that longstanding issues such as poverty, illiteracy, and sudden natural disasters require collective and coordinated regional efforts.

Israel’s actions in Gaza

The deputy prime minister also condemned Israel’s actions in Gaza, describing the ongoing violence as a humanitarian crisis, and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to diplomacy and the peaceful resolution of disputes.

The Deputy Prime Minister said Pakistan seeks a just, equitable, and inclusive world order. He said we have opposed bloc politics and zero-sum approaches and consistently stressed the imperative of cooperation rather than confrontation.

He concluded by underscoring the need for dialogue, diplomacy, and multilateral cooperation grounded in international law and the principles of the UN Charter.

“Pakistan seeks a just, equitable, and inclusive world order and has consistently championed cooperation over confrontation,” he said.
