OIC Assistant Secretary General Arrives in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian, Cultural, and Social Affairs at the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Tariq Ali Bakheet, arrived in Pakistan on Friday on a one-day official visit.

He was received at the airport by Ahmed Nadeem Khan, Head of the Ministry of Religious Affairs’ Department of Da’wah and Ziaraat, Radio Pakistan reported.

According to a spokesperson from the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Tariq Ali Bakheet will represent the OIC President at the prize distribution ceremony of the International Husn-e-Qirat Competition during his visit.

The International Qirat Competition, which began on Monday, November 24, featured Qura between the ages of 25 and 35 from 37 countries. The prize distribution ceremony is scheduled for November 29.

The event highlighted Pakistan’s role in promoting Quranic recitation on a global stage.

Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, Sardar Muhammad Yousuf, welcomed the attendees at the inaugural session of the competition, calling it “historic” and a platform to project Pakistan’s positive image internationally.

Sardar Yousuf stressed the importance of Arabic alongside Urdu, Pakistan’s national language, as the language of the Quran. He noted that the Ministry is actively promoting Arabic education in universities nationwide, ensuring that Pakistanis understand the core message of Islam.
