BRISBANE, Australia: India sealed a 2-1 victory in the five-match T20 International series against Australia after the final game was abandoned due to rain at the Gabba on Saturday.
India, sent in to bat after losing the toss, made a strong start before heavy rain halted play after just 4.5 overs.
Openers Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill scored 23 and 29 runs respectively, taking the total to 52 without loss when a thunderstorm forced players from the field. Persistent rain prevented any further play, and the match was eventually called off.
It was the second washout of the series, following the abandoned first T20I in Canberra on October 29.
Australia won the second match in Melbourne by four wickets, while India bounced back to claim victories in the third T20I in Hobart by five wickets and the fourth in Gold Coast by 48 runs.
The result gave India a 2-1 series win, continuing their dominant run in the shortest format of the game. The young Indian side, led by captain Suryakumar Yadav and vice-captain Shubman Gill, featured rising stars such as Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, Jasprit Bumrah, and Washington Sundar.
Australia were captained by Mitchell Marsh, with key players including Tim David, Marcus Stoinis, and Nathan Ellis.
This series win marks India’s seventh consecutive bilateral T20I series victory. The streak began in 2023 against Afghanistan and has included triumphs over Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka, and South Africa.
India have now gone unbeaten in their last 10 T20I series, with their previous series defeat coming against the West Indies in 2023.
During this period, India have also won major international titles, including the ICC T20 World Cup, the Asia Cup, and a gold medal in the 2023 Asian Games.
