ISLAMABAD: New Zealand secured a nervy two-wicket victory in the third One-Day International (ODI) to complete a 3-0 whitewash over England.
Chasing 223, New Zealand benefitted from solid contributions by Devon Conway (34), Rachin Ravindra (46), Daryl Mitchell (44), and an unbroken 30-run stand between Zachery Foulkes (11*) and Blair Tickner (18*) to guide the Blackcaps to victory.
This win marked New Zealand’s first ODI series whitewash over England in 42 years, with the last instance occurring in 1983 under Geoff Howarth’s captaincy. As a result, Mitchell Santner became the first New Zealand captain to lead the team to a clean sweep over England since then, while Harry Brook became the first England captain to suffer such a defeat since Bob Willis.
Throughout the series, New Zealand successfully chased down England’s totals in all three matches. They triumphed by four wickets in the first ODI in Mount Maunganui, followed by a five-wicket win in Hamilton, and concluded with a tight victory in Wellington.
Before the ODIs, England had won the three-match T20I series 1-0, which included two washed-out games.
