ISLAMABAD: China and Iran marched into the men’s final of the IBSA Asia-Pacific Goalball Championships 2024 with strong semifinal wins at the Liaquat Gymnasium of Pakistan Sports Complex on Monday.
Iran battled past Thailand 3–2 in a thrilling, end-to-end contest, while China outclassed Australia 7–4, showcasing sharp attacking play and disciplined teamwork.
In earlier men’s quarterfinals, Iran crushed Uzbekistan 11–1, Thailand edged South Korea 10–9, China routed Saudi Arabia 12–2, and Australia beat Kazakhstan 7–2.
In the women’s competition, China defeated Thailand 6–3 and Japan shut out South Korea 4–0, setting up a much-anticipated China–Japan final.
Both men’s and women’s finals are scheduled for Monday, bringing the curtain down on the week-long event, Pakistan’s first time hosting the regional championship.
