TEHRAN, Iran: Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Monday rebuked US President Donald Trump’s claims that Washington and Israel had destroyed Tehran’s nuclear facilities, calling the assertions “false and arrogant” while ruling out renewed talks with the United States.

Speaking to young Iranian medalists in sports and scientific Olympiads, Khamenei stated that the United States is in no position to dictate Iran’s nuclear capabilities, calling such interference “inappropriate, wrong, and bullying,” according to the IRNA.

Diplomatic Context

Khamenei addressed Trump’s comments concerning airstrikes by the United States and Israel during the June 12-day war, emphasising that the “Iranian nuclear program is for peaceful purposes.”

He further criticised Trump for exaggerating threats to Iran and attempting to bolster Israeli confidence through misleading rhetoric.

“Keep dreaming. But who are you, anyway, to set dos and don’ts for a country simply because it possesses a nuclear industry?” Khamenei remarked.

National Achievements and Youth Empowerment

Highlighting the country’s progress in science, technology, and defence, Khamenei praised the achievements of Iran’s youth in international competitions.

He noted the role of young Iranians in advancing sectors including nanotechnology, laser, nuclear research, military industries, and medicine, emphasising that Iran’s self-reliance underpins its scientific and defence capabilities.

Khamenei credited Iranian youth for producing the country’s missiles, which were effectively used during regional conflicts, including the 12-day war against Israel in June.

Regional Implications and US-Iran Relations

The Supreme Leader also condemned US support for Israel and interference in regional affairs, asserting that American actions fuel conflict and despair.

He criticised Trump’s rhetoric surrounding the Gaza war and the US’s role in enabling groups like ISIS, underscoring that Iran’s military and scientific preparedness remains robust.

Analysts suggest these remarks reinforce Iran’s firm stance against external pressure and highlight its focus on self-sufficiency in defence and technology.

International Coverage

The statements were widely reported by Iranian state media, particularly IRNA, with Reuters and Al Jazeera providing international coverage of Khamenei’s rejection of US claims and his emphasis on Iran’s sovereign right to pursue a nuclear program for peaceful purposes.
