ANKARA, Turkiye: Turkiye has announced that its Armed Forces are prepared to join a multinational task force to be established in Gaza under US President Donald Trump’s ceasefire plan, National Defence Minister Yasar Güler said, according to Al Jazeera.
Güler stated that key sessions were held during the NATO defence ministers’ meeting yesterday, which included discussions on the alliance’s activities and its ongoing humanitarian initiatives, the defence ministry said in a statement.
“Our satisfaction with the ceasefire achieved in Gaza and our hope that it will mark the beginning of a fair two-state solution, the importance of ensuring the full implementation of the ceasefire and uninterrupted humanitarian aid,” the minister said.
“Turkiye’s commitment to continuing its humanitarian support and the readiness of the Turkish Armed Forces to take part in the multinational task force to be established in Gaza,” Guler said.
Defense Ministry spokesman Zeki Akturk has also said the military has previously participated in numerous international missions organised by various institutions across different regions to ensure global peace and security.
He expressed satisfaction over the ceasefire reached in Gaza through Turkiye’s mediation efforts, stressing the urgent need to deliver humanitarian assistance and begin reconstruction in the region, which has been facing a severe humanitarian crisis for the past two years.
“We hope that the ceasefire will contribute to establishing a just and lasting peace and ultimately serve the two-state solution,” he said.
The remarks came as the Israeli army began a gradual troop withdrawal from the Gaza Strip on Friday, hoping to complete the withdrawal to the locations specified in US President Donald Trump’s plan to end the war in the Gaza Strip within 24 hours.
