ISLAMABAD: Pakistani medical students studying in Afghanistan have demanded the government to allow them admission to Pakistani government medical colleges without tests after the ban on girls’ education in Afghanistan.

They said they went to Afghanistan due to the high fees of private medical colleges in Pakistan, but now girls’ education has been banned there. Regarding admission to the medical colleges of Pakistan, the Pakistani medical students studying in Afghanistan have appealed to the government to save their future from destruction by allowing their admission to the government medical colleges without any test, as they belong to low-income families and cannot afford to get admission in any private medical college.

They sought admission in the government sector institutions considering their financial condition and the ban on girls’ education in Afghanistan. “We went to Afghanistan for education; our number is around one hundred, and we are deeply affected by the ban on education in Afghanistan. We belong to backward and poor families, and we appeal to the Prime Minister and the Army Chief that the returning female students should be admitted to the government medical universities and colleges of Pakistan immediately without any test,” the students added.

Student leaders including Sana Mir, Irm Irfan and others addressed a press conference at the National Press Club here to make what they termed a justified demand. They said that they had returned to Pakistan in a very forced state during the emergency, so there should not be any test for admission to any medical college, and they should be admitted to government colleges immediately because they belong to low-income families and cannot afford the education expenses in private colleges and universities. They hoped the government would support them so that they could complete their education.
