ISLAMABAD: Google announced on Thursday that students in Pakistan aged 18 and over will now be eligible for a free one-year subscription to its AI Pro plan.

In a press release, the company stated the initiative is aimed at helping students “enhance their learning, research, and creativity through advanced AI tools — at no cost”.

The Gemini AI Pro Plan provides access to Google’s most advanced AI features, including the Gemini 2.5 Pro model, which offers enhanced capabilities such as Deep Research to support students with assignments, academic work, and creative projects.

Gemini is also integrated into Google Apps, “bringing AI assistance directly into Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Meet, helping students summarise emails, create study presentations, and analyse data more efficiently”.

Free access

Students will additionally benefit from NotebookLM, Google’s personalised AI-powered research and writing assistant, and receive increased limits for AI tools that generate videos from text or images, such as Veo 3 in Gemini and Flow.

The offer also includes two terabytes of cloud storage, covering Google Drive, Gmail, and Photos, to help students securely store notes, academic projects, and other study materials.

“This offer is part of Google’s broader mission to empower every student with the AI tools they need to advance their learning and unlock their creativity,” the statement added, noting that the AI Pro Plan is now available in several Asia-Pacific countries, including Pakistan.

Eligible university students have been encouraged to register and gain free access for up to one year.
