ISLAMABAD: Despite winning the Asia Cup 2025, the Indian team initially refused to accept the trophy. Now, the BCCI has requested the Asian Cricket Council to hand it over, to which ACC President Mohsin Naqvi curtly responded, “Come and get it.”

What started as a thrilling Asia Cup 2025 finale between India and Pakistan has now turned into an off-field power tussle, this time over the trophy itself.

BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla has formally asked Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Mohsin Naqvi to hand over the Asia Cup trophy to India, Pakistani media reported while citing sources.

However, Naqvi, who is also the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board, had a clear message: “If India wants the trophy, let the captain come collect it in person.”

The trophy handover wasn’t even on the agenda of the recent ACC meeting, according to media reports citing sources, but Shukla pushed for it anyway. Naqvi, however, reportedly refused to make any special arrangements and stood firm on presenting it himself.

The Trophy Refusal

This follows the bizarre conclusion to the Asia Cup final, where India defeated Pakistan but refused to accept the trophy from Naqvi, a move believed to be directed by the BCCI.

The decision led to the trophy being sent back to the ACC office instead of being presented to the winning team in front of the crowd.

Despite pressure from Indian officials, Naqvi remained cool and calm: he would only hand it over personally, or not at all.

It is worth noting that, despite winning the tournament, the Indian team remained adamant in their refusal to shake hands with Pakistani players.

Their stance extended further when they declined to accept the trophy from ACC President Mohsin Naqvi. However, Naqvi did not budge from his position, insisting that only he would present the trophy, leaving the Indian team unable to receive it from anyone else during the ceremony.

Following this, the BCCI officially informed the ACC that the team would not accept the trophy, leading to the original trophy being sent back from the stadium.
