ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has strongly condemned the “Israeli aggression” against Qatar, calling the move “highly provocative and a blatant violation of Qatar’s sovereignty”.

Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry, in a statement, said the “reckless action” is an open violation of international law, the UN Charter, and the established norms governing interstate relations.

“Pakistan expresses its complete solidarity with the brotherly State of Qatar against this unprovoked and unlawful aggression,” the ministry stated.

The statement further said this reckless action by Israel is yet another manifestation of its continued disregard for international peace and security, and its policy of destabilising the region.

The Foreign Ministry noted Pakistan has consistently maintained that such impunity must not be tolerated by the international community.

“We reaffirm our principled position in support of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Qatar, and call upon the international community to hold Israel accountable,” it said.

It said Pakistan will continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with the brotherly people and the leadership of Qatar in defence of their national sovereignty and security.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, in a post on X denounced the reprehensible Israeli attack on Doha.

“We categorically denounce the reprehensible Israeli attack on Doha, which blatantly violates international law and humanitarian norms,” he said. He noted that targeting civilians and sovereign territory is an indefensible act of aggression. “Pakistan reiterates its unwavering support for the people and the State of Qatar in these grave times,” he stated.

The Israeli military said it targeted senior Hamas leaders on Tuesday, after explosions were reported in Doha and smoke was seen rising above the Qatari capital, where the Palestinian group’s political bureau is based, AFP reported.

“The IDF (Israeli military) and ISA (security agency) conducted a precise strike targeting the senior leadership of Hamas,” the military said, without specifying where the strike took place.

A senior Hamas source, cited by Al Jazeera, said that leaders of the Palestinian group have been targeted in Doha while discussing US President Donald Trump’s proposal for a ceasefire in Gaza.

Qatar condemned the attack and said Israeli strikes targeted residential buildings housing Hamas political bureau members residing in the Gulf country.

Earlier, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, strongly condemned the bombing in Doha by Israeli forces.

In a post on X, he said: On behalf of the people and Government of Pakistan as well as on my own behalf, I strongly condemn the unlawful and heinous bombing in Doha by Israeli forces, targeting a residential area, and endangering the lives of innocent civilians.

“Our deepest sympathies and solidarity are with the Amir, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Qatari Royal Family, as well as the people of Qatar at this difficult time,” he said.

He said this act of aggression by Israel is totally unjustified, a brazen violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Qatar, and constitutes a most dangerous provocation that could imperil regional peace and stability. Pakistan stands firmly with the State of Qatar, as well as with the people of Palestine, against Israel’s aggression.
