ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to strengthening its all-weather friendship with China, vowing to elevate bilateral relations, particularly in trade and industry, to new heights.

Speaking with a delegation from the Chinese garments giant, Challenge Fashion Private Limited, in Islamabad on Friday, the Prime Minister hailed the enduring Pakistan-China partnership as unique and resilient, having stood the test of time through every challenge, Radio Pakistan reported.

Led by Group Chairman Huwang Weiguo, the delegation discussed ongoing and future investments in Pakistan. The Prime Minister praised the group’s confidence in the Pakistani market and welcomed their efforts to establish a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in the country. He highlighted the zone’s potential for technology transfer, skills development, and sustainable industrial growth.

Shehbaz Sharif directed relevant authorities to extend all necessary support to the Challenge Group in operationalising the SEZ, adding that the initiative aligns with Pakistan’s commitment to expanding the industrial component of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

He further emphasised Pakistan’s intention to benefit from China’s advanced expertise in the textile sector and announced that a China-Pakistan Business-to-Business Conference would soon be held in China to foster collaboration between private enterprises from both countries.

Chairman Huwang Weiguo thanked the Prime Minister for the warm hospitality and noted that the Challenge Group has invested $17 million in Pakistan since 2014. He added that the group is in the process of establishing a state-of-the-art textile facility in the country.

Officials briefed the Prime Minister that the Special Economic Zone will attract an additional $100 million in investment over the next five years, with projected exports reaching $400 million.

Later, the Prime Minister formally inaugurated the Challenge Group Special Economic Zone.
