Pakistan Met Office Forecasts Thundershowers in Several Parts of Country

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Met Office has forecast rain with strong winds and thundershowers in upper Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Kashmir on Wednesday.

The Met Office has predicted heavy rain at a few places in northeastern Punjab, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Kashmir. However, it said that hot and humid weather is likely to persist in most parts of the country.

According to the Met Office, in Punjab, Gujrat has received 86 mm of rain while 37 mm rain has been recorded in Narowal during last 24 hours.  Similarly, Islamabad has received 30 mm of rain at Airport and 28 mm rain at Saidpur.

Potential flood

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 9 mm of rain has been recorded in Mardan and 9 mm of rain in Dir.  In Kashmir, in Garhi Dopatta has received 10mm and Muzaffarabad 9mm rain during last 24 hours.

Earlier on Tuesday, Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) issued a hydrological alert regarding the potential flood situation in the River Sutlej.

According to NDMA, monsoon currents are actively penetrating upper and central parts of Pakistan, and a westerly trough persists over the northern areas. As a result, scattered heavy to very heavy rainfall is forecasted between 5th and 7th August 2025, contributing to increasing river flows.
