ISLAMABAD: Former Indian Home Minister P Chidambaram has said that there is no evidence of Pakistan’s involvement in the Pahalgam incident, adding the attackers were Indian nationals.

Chidambaram, who is a member of the opposition party, Congress, questioned the Modi government, “Why does the Indian government assume that the attackers came from Pakistan?”

Chidambaram blasts Modi

While criticising Modi, the former home minister stated that the attackers were, in fact, Indian nationals who had received terrorist training within India, according to India media reports.

Earlier, Chidambaram had also criticised the Indian government’s stance on Gaza, saying that humanity is being disgraced there. “Dozens of people are being killed in Gaza daily, many of them women and children who have no connection to the conflict,” he stated.

In a statement, he said that according to the United Nations (UN), more than a thousand Palestinians have been killed since May while trying to obtain food in Gaza.

He added, “Look at the images of starving children in refugee camps — it’s clear they are dying of hunger. The world sleeps, and when it wakes up, its conscience is already buried.”

Pakistan offered cooperation

It may be recalled that the government of Pakistan not only condemned the Pahalgam incident but Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also offered full cooperation to India for transparent and impartial investigations — an offer the Modi government declined.

26 people were killed in the Pahalgam incident in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
