ISLAMABAD: Daily yogurt consumption improves digestive health, boosts immunity, and supports healthier skin and bones, according to various scientific studies.
Regular consumption may also bring down high blood pressure and help prevent infections in the body.
Experts say yogurt is a rich source of probiotics, which are live bacteria that support intestinal function. These bacteria relieve digestive disorders, soothe the digestive tract, and help treat upset stomachs.
Researchers at the University of Vienna in Austria found that a daily intake of approximately 200 grams of yoghurt helps to strengthen the immune system. The study linked regular yoghurt consumption with enhanced immune responses.
It helps to moisturise the skin and relieve dryness. Poor digestion can contribute to acne, and regular intake of yoghurt supports internal cleansing, which in turn promotes clearer skin. When applied topically, yoghurt acts as a natural exfoliant, with its lactic acid content helping to remove excess oil and dead skin cells.
According to experts, regular consumption of yoghurt has also been associated with reduced blood pressure, contributing to overall cardiovascular health.
At a scientific session hosted by the American Heart Association, findings showed that individuals who consumed more fat-free yogurt were 31 percent less likely to develop high blood pressure. Proteins in yogurt, alongside nutrients such as potassium and magnesium, contribute to this protective effect and promote cardiovascular health.
Yogurt also regulates the body’s internal bacterial balance. The active cultures in yogurt limit the growth of harmful bacteria and reduce the risk of infections.
The researchers say one cup of yoghurt (250 grams) provides approximately 275 mg of calcium, which helps maintain bone density and supports overall skeletal strength.
