  • No agreement involving US access to Pakistani airbases is under discussion

ISLAMABAD: An article published on globalfinserve.com alleging that Pakistan has granted the United States access to two key military airbases has been debunked as “false and misleading”.

The report, dated June 20, 2025, claimed that the Director of China’s Ministry of State Security (MSS) had raised concerns over Pakistan’s alleged decision to allow US military operations at Nur Khan Air Base near Islamabad and Jacobabad Air Base in Sindh.

It further asserted that the purported access was linked to US objectives in Afghanistan and Iran, and that China had threatened to suspend cooperation on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and defence projects in response.

Thorough fact-check

However, thorough fact-checking has revealed the article lacks credibility.

It contains no citations from official or reliable sources in Pakistan, China, or the United States. Pakistan has denied any agreement granting US access to its airbases.

According to a report by 24 News, diplomatic sources confirmed that the Chinese Embassy in Islamabad has dismissed the statements attributed to the MSS Director.

Digital analysis

A senior Chinese official reportedly labelled the claims as fake and called on the public and media to disregard such fabricated content.

Digital analysis of the article’s online dissemination shows that approximately 87 per cent of the accounts promoting it are likely bots or part of coordinated networks, many linked to prior anti-Pakistan campaigns originating from Indian digital platforms.

The uniform phrasing and rapid spread of the article indicate a targeted disinformation effort.

Regarding the meeting between Field Marshal Asim Munir and Donald Trump, no agreement involving US access to Pakistani airbases was discussed. Official accounts state the meeting centred on diplomatic engagement, with Trump commending Pakistan’s role in regional de-escalation and calling for enhanced trade cooperation.
