35 Universities in Afghanistan Could Collapse After Women Education Ban: Report

ISLAMABAD: A cascade effect as a result of Taliban’s women education ban in higher institutions of Afghanistan is being felt by the private universities of the country, which as per an estimate may sooner or later, according to an Afghan media report.

The union of private universities’ media officer, Mohammad Karim Nasiri, said that economic woes have increased, thus 30 to 35 universities are facing major economic issues. The report further states that owners of some universities have issued a warning that if female students are not allowed to attend many institutions would shut down.

Moraa educational center for females’ founder Azizullah Amir that there are no men at this educational center thus the implementation of Taliban’s order would result in the center’s closure.

The Dawat University’s deputy head said that he hoped the closure was just temporary.

Taliban making efforts to ease principles on university education

Ziaullah Hashimi, Taliban’s Ministry of Higher Education spokesman, said measures to resolve the sector’s issues were being undertaken. Hashimi claimed that the Taliban authorities were making efforts to ease its principles in a way to provide services for universities and mitigate their problems.
