ISLAMABAD: The Indian Premier League cricket tournament has been suspended due to the heightened border tensions between India and Pakistan, Indian media reported Friday.
The officials decided to suspend the T20 league indefinitely after a match on Thursday was abandoned in Dharamsala.
According to Chennai Super Kings Managing Director KS Viswanathan, the league has been suspended, and players are returning to their destinations.
“Cloud of uncertainty”
“A cloud of uncertainty had loomed over the future of the ongoing edition since the cancellation of Thursday’s match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala midway following air raid alerts in neighbouring cities of Jammu and Pathankot,” the Press Trust of India reported.
“It does not look nice that cricket goes on while the country is at war,” a BCCI official told Indian state media.

Earlier in the day, the Pakistan Super League was moved to the UAE amid the escalating tensions.
Final fixture
The world’s richest cricket tournament began its current season on March 22, and the final fixture was scheduled to be played on May 25, with matches being spread over 13 venues across the country.
Pakistan and India have been locked in conflict since Wednesday, when India attacked multiple locations in Pakistan, killing and injuring dozens of civilians overnight.
