Israeli Troops Kill Palestinian Football Player

GAZA: Palestinian medics have said that Israeli troops have shot dead a football player and injured five others in the occupied West Bank, Arab media reported on Thursday. Palestine’s Football Association (PFA) said that 23-year-old football player Ahmed Daraghmeh was killed by Israeli troops during a raid in Nablus and asked FIFA to probe the killing.  

Local media reported that Ahmad was playing football for Thaqafi Tulkarem club in West Bank Premier League. The popular football website Kooora listed Ahmad as having been the club’s top scorer the current season, with 6 goals. As many as 150 Palestinians were killed by Israeli troops in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem in the current year.

Meanwhile, Palestine’s Football Association (PFA) has asked FIFA to probe the death of football player Daraghmeh. It said that they expressed their heartfelt condolences to the family of the footballer and his club. It demanded that international football organizations should take notice of the racist policies of Israeli occupation.

Palestine’s Football Association added that it is a constant violation of sports regulations. The Association has said in the past that the Israeli occupation had deeply affected the development of football in Palestine.
