QUETTA: Pakistan signed the landmark Reko Diq project agreement with Barrick Gold and Antofagasta PLC on Friday.
Representatives of the federal and Balochistan governments were present in the agreement signing ceremony, a statement issued by the Chief Minister Balochistan office said. “The Reko Diq contract is effective from 16 December 2022 (today) and the company will start work immediately”, it said. After the deal, the fine imposed on Pakistan by the international court of arbitrary has become ineffective.
Reko Diq Pakistan’s biggest deal
Reko Diq project with a total cost of $8 billion is the largest foreign investment deal in the history of Pakistan. Abdul Aziz Aqili, Chief Secretary Balochistan, took to Twitter to express his happiness over the deal. He said that Reko Diq project agreement was one of the biggest achievements for Balochistan and Pakistan. — APP
