Special Parliamentary Committee Approves Draft of Constitutional Amendment: Khursheed Shah

ISLAMABAD: The Chairman, of the Special Parliamentary Committee, Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah on Friday confirmed that the committee has approved the draft of the proposed 26th Constitutional Amendment unanimously.

The Parliamentary Special Committee convened under the chair of Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah to discuss the proposed constitutional amendment draft.

Speaking to journalist after the meeting, the PPP leader that he was unaware of the recent decision of Supreme Court but added that consensus had been reached in the meeting to allow overseas Pakistanis to contest elections.

He said that the draft approved by the special committee would be later presented before the federal cabinet. He said that overseas Pakistanis would be permitted to contest elections, with a requirement to relinquish dual nationality within three months.

Khursheed Shah said that PTI was also present during the meeting and raised the point about granting rights to contest polls to Pakistanis living abroad. He said the committee has suggested the federal cabinet to include this right in the prosed constitutional amendment draft.

He said the draft was presented point-by-point, and all members of the committee agreed on its clauses unanimously. “Though no signatures were made on the bill, all committee members raised their hands in support of the approval,” Khursheed Shah said.
