LAHORE:  Pakistan captain Babar Azam on Tuesday announced that he was tendering resignation from the white-ball captaincy, adding that it was time for him to focus on his playing role and individual growth.

In a statement via social media, Babar announced that by stepping down, he would gain clarity moving forward and focus more energy on his game and individual growth.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had reappointed him as skipper for T20I and one-day internationals (ODIs) on March 31.  Babar had earlier ended his years-long stint as captain in November 2023 following, he stepped down as skipper of the national side.

Babar said, “I am going to share some news with you today. I took the decision to quit as skipper of the Pakistan men’s cricket team, effective as of my notification to the Pakistan Cricket Board and Team Management last month.”

Expressing his gratefulness for the support, he said he is excited to continue contributing to the national team as a player.
