Iran Bus Crash: Pak Ambassador Assures Best Efforts for Bodies’ Repatriation

TEHRAN: Pakistan’s Ambassador to Iran Mudassir Tipu on Wednesday said that the embassy officials had already left for Yazd city for better facilitation and coordination where a bus carrying Pakistani pilgrims met a mishap killing around 35 of them.

The ambassador, on his social media account, said that 28 Pakistani pilgrims laid down their lives on Tuesday night while another 23 were wounded.

He said, “I have no words to express grief but I can assure that I will do my very best for the repatriation of those who dies,”.

Also assuring the maximum facilitation and medical treatment of those wounded, the ambassador said the embassy officials had already left for the of city of Yazd, almost 700 km away from Tehran and an officer in Zahedan was overseeing emergency arrangements after the accident.

He said that he is in touch with the Iran government and the office of Mayor of Yazd for crucial arrangements. He also thanked Iran for extending excellent cooperation after the accident.

35 Pakistani Pilgrims Killed in a Bus Crash in Iran

At least 35 Pakistani pilgrims have been killed and 15 others injured after a bus carrying pilgrims met with an accident in Yazd, Iran. Iranian media reported that the ill-fated bus overturned and caught fire near Taftan-Dehshir check point.

The bus, which had around 50 passengers on board, met with the mishap yesterday night. Police and rescue officials rushed to the site after the accident. Local media reported that bodies and wounded people have been shifted to the hospital. An emergency has been imposed at hospitals across the city to treat the wounded. The crash occurred Tuesday night in Yazd, said Mohammad Ali Malekzadeh, a local emergency official said. Iranian state media blamed the crash on the bus brakes failing and a lack of attention by its driver.

In Pakistan, local media reports cited a local leader, Qamar Abbas, saying 35 people had passed away in the accident. He described those on the bus as coming from Larkana, Sindh. Reports said that Pakistani pilgrims had been on their way to Iraq.

Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari has expressed his deep grief over the death of Pakistani pilgrims in a bus accident in Iran. In a statement, the president prayed to Allah Almighty for peace for the departed souls, early recovery of the wounded people, and strength for the bereaved families to bear the loss.

Asif Ali Zardari issued directives to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to make complete arrangements to bring back the bodies at the earliest and ensure timely treatment to the injured people.
