ISLAMABAD: Congratulating the nation on Youm-e-Takbeer, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the day symbolizes the collective effort of all facets of national power, overcoming what seemed like an insurmountable challenge and achieving a landmark in the nation’s defense capabilities.

In a statement via social media, the Prime Minister said, “May 28 signifies more than just a mere commemoration of a day; it encapsulates the narrative of our nation’s arduous yet remarkable path towards establishing a credible minimum deterrence.”

On this historic day in 1998, he said Nawaz Sharif showed bold leadership by rejecting nerve wrecking pressures and inducements to make Pakistan a nuclear armed nation.

In a statement, the PM paid rich tribute to former Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, the founder of Pakistan’s nuclear programme for his strategic foresight and firm resolve to the cause.

Pakistan is observing 26th anniversary of Youm-e-Takbeer today with national zeal and enthusiasm in remembrance of successful nuclear tests conducted on this day in 1998 that made the defense of the nation invincible.

The day is commemorated every year on May 28 to remember the conduction of nuclear tests on the very day, in 1998, making 7th nuclear nation of the world and first Muslim state equipped with nuclear arsenal.

Pakistan had conducted nuclear tests in Chaghi district of Balochistan in response to five nuclear explosions conducted by India, threatening the security of Pakistan.
