PARIS, France: About 10,000 people took part in a demonstration near the Israeli embassy in Paris on Monday against Israel’s deadly shelling of Rafah.

The demonstration gathered a few hundred meters from the embassy in the center of the French capital before protesters chanted “We are all children of Gaza”, “Free Gaza” and other pro-Palestinian slogans.

The rally was organized a day after an Israeli strike on Hamas targets in Rafah sparked a fire in the tent city that killed 45 people, the Hamas-run health ministry said. Israel faced international condemnation for the attack.

“It is a massacre too many,” said France-Palestine Solidarity Association group’s François Rippe. The group had organized the rally, which Paris police said drew about 10,000 people.

“They start a fire in a camp for displaced, they burn people and we (France) don’t even summon the Israeli ambassador to ask for an account. It is just not acceptable,” Rippe said further.

One large banner at the rally showed Presidents Emmanuel Macron of France, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Joe Biden of the United States with the slogan “it is humanity they are assassinating”.

The United States and France have condemned the Israeli attack.

Meanwhile, the UN Security Council has convened an emergency meeting for today (Tuesday) after the deadly Israeli strike on displaced persons camp in Rafah, according to diplomats.

They said the closed-door meeting was sought by Algeria, which is currently a non-permanent member of the council.
