MOSCOW: Russian President Vladimir Putin is reportedly preparing to make a trip to North Korea amid the two countries’ increasing military cooperation.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed the developments, stating that Putin possesses a valid invitation for the visit and that arrangements are currently being made. The spokesperson said that the dates for the visit will be disclosed at an appropriate time.

The announcement follows a crucial summit between Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un held at the Vostochny Cosmodrome in Russia’s Far East last September. During this meeting, Kim extended a formal invitation to Putin to visit North Korea, an invitation that the Russian President accepted.

North Korean Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui visited Russia in January of this year to hold talks regarding Putin’s impending visit.
