DUBAI: Australia has finalized their squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, confirming a 15-player group along with traveling reserves. The squad remains unchanged from the preliminary list, with Jake Fraser-McGurk and Matt Short serving as reserves.
This means notable absences like Steve Smith, Jason Behrendorff, and Tanveer Sangha won’t be part of the four-week tournament in the West Indies and the USA. Mitchell Marsh leads the team, and Ashton Agar makes a return despite not playing a T20I since the last World Cup.
The squad includes all-rounder options like Marcus Stoinis, Tim David, and Cameron Green. Australian players and staff will join the squad in stages, accommodating those in the Indian Premier League. George Bailey, the chair of selectors, emphasized the importance of Fraser-McGurk and Short, providing necessary cover during the tournament. Australia begins their campaign against Oman in Barbados on June 5, followed by fixtures against England, Namibia, and Scotland in Group B.
The Australian squad, led by Mitchell Marsh, includes Ashton Agar, Pat Cummins, Tim David, Nathan Ellis, Cameron Green, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis, Matthew Wade, David Warner, and Adam Zampa. Additionally, Jake Fraser-McGurk and Matt Short serve as travelling reserves.
