ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in a meeting with Gilgit Baltistan (GB) Chief Minister Gulbar Khan, outlined plans to enhance education, healthcare, and tourism infrastructure in the region.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz directed the authorities to establish Daanish Schools across all three divisions of Gilgit Baltistan, aiming to provide world-class education and accommodation facilities to students from low-income backgrounds. This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to promoting inclusive education and uplifting disadvantaged communities.
Additionally, a committee was formed to address the challenges faced by Gilgit Baltistan, with a focus on consulting stakeholders and presenting recommendations for sustainable development. Prime Minister Shehbaz emphasized the federal government’s priority of improving education and healthcare facilities in GB, highlighting the importance of empowering its people through access to essential services.
Recognizing the tourism potential of Gilgit Baltistan, Prime Minister Shehbaz called for recommendations to harness this sector’s growth opportunities effectively. He instructed authorities to expedite the progress on hydropower projects such as Attabad and Harpo, which are essential for ensuring a reliable power supply to the region.
Furthermore, Prime Minister Shehbaz emphasized the importance of solar power projects in Gilgit Baltistan and sought a comprehensive strategy for their implementation. Federal ministers and senior officials, including Federal Law and Justice Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar and Economic Affairs Minister Ahad Khan Cheema, attended the meeting, where discussions centered on enhancing education, healthcare, and tourism sectors in Gilgit Baltistan.
The meeting also reviewed the progress on infrastructure projects such as the Naltar Expressway, which is expected to contribute significantly to the region’s progress and prosperity. Overall, Prime Minister Shehbaz reiterated the government’s commitment to prioritizing Gilgit Baltistan’s development and ensuring the well-being of its people.
