GAZA: In a harrowing development, Gaza’s Kamal Adwan hospital has reported the deaths of at least 15 Palestinian children over the past few days due to malnutrition and dehydration, according to a statement issued by the Gaza health ministry.
The situation has raised alarm as six more children are feared to be in critical condition, battling malnutrition and diarrhea in the hospital’s intensive care unit. The crisis is exacerbated by the cessation of the electric generator and oxygen supply, alongside the weakening of medical capabilities, as stated by Ashraf Al-Qidra, the spokesperson for the Gaza health ministry.
Amidst the tragedy, Israel’s denial of responsibility for what has been termed the ‘flour massacre’ has sparked controversy. Donatella Rovera, a senior crisis response adviser at Amnesty International, challenged Israel’s stance, emphasizing its obligations under international law as the occupying power. Rovera highlighted Israel’s control over Gaza’s access to food, medical supplies, and humanitarian aid, citing the escalating restrictions since October 7 and the longstanding blockade imposed since 2007.

Contrary to Israel’s claims, Rovera asserted that there is concrete evidence, including video footage and witness accounts, contradicting the military’s denial of involvement in the deaths of 117 Palestinians during a food aid collection on February 29. The incident prompted global condemnation and calls for an independent inquiry, with UN officials reporting that many of the wounded sustained bullet injuries.
Moreover, Rovera underscored the obstruction faced by human rights officers and journalists in Gaza, hindering independent investigations into such incidents.
The grim toll of Israel’s military offensive on Gaza continues to mount, with the Gaza health ministry reporting at least 30,410 Palestinians killed and 71,700 injured since October 7. In the past 24 hours alone, 90 Palestinians have lost their lives.
