SYDNEY: Sri Lankan cricketer Danushka Gunathilaka has been granted bail by a Sydney court. However, Danushka will not have access to social media and will not be able to go out of Australia until the next orders.
He was arrested on charges of sexual assault during the T20 World Cup campaign. According to foreign media, the Sydney court approved the bail request of the Sri Lankan cricketer, after which he is likely to be released soon.
The cricketer was accused of sexually assaulting a woman and was in police custody since November 6. He has been granted bail on strict conditions after spending 11 days in jail. According to the conditions imposed by the court, Danushka will not have access to social media and will not be able to go out of Australia.
The woman had accused the Sri Lankan cricketer of raping her several times, while the police said that the woman and the cricketer had several drinks before going home. The police started an investigation against the Sri Lankan cricketer at the woman’s request, after which Danushka was arrested on Sussex Street during preparations for the Sri Lankan team’s departure.
