PESHAWAR: In a major move, the Peshawar district administration on Wednesday seized smuggled and illegal cigarettes from various shops in different localities and destroyed them on the spot.
In compliance with the directives issued by Deputy Commissioner Peshawar Afaq Wazir, Additional Assistant Commissioner Sameera Saba, along with officials from Tobacco Control, conducted operations against the selling of illegal cigarettes in University Town, Naser Bagh Road, and other adjacent areas.
Shops Selling Illegal Cigarettes
The administration took action against more than 40 shops, leading to the confiscation and destruction of illegal cigarettes and prohibited items. They also disposed of unauthorized advertising pamphlets.
Meanwhile, Sameera Saba issued instructions to the shopkeepers to stop selling illegal cigarettes and ensure they avoid selling cigarettes to individuals under 18 years of age, adding that strict action would be taken against those caught selling cigarettes to minors.
She also urged the shopkeepers to avoid open displays of cigarettes and to keep them away from food and beverage items.
