GAZA CITY: Israel has warned that its attacks on Gaza will continue throughout 2024, as relentless airstrikes continue to kill civilians in the Palestinian territory. Israeli military spokesman Daniel Hagari announced that while some of the 300,000 army reservists may receive breaks from the offensive, preparations are underway for prolonged offensive throughout 2024.

“The army must plan ahead, understanding that we will be required for additional tasks and warfare throughout this year,” stated Hagari, amidst ongoing Israeli attacks.

On Monday, heavy Israeli artillery fire pounded Gaza, resulting in at least 24 casualties, according to health ministry officials. Attacks have been reported across the length of the besieged territory. In Gaza, where the UN reports that 85 percent of the Palestinian population has been displaced, residents endure continuous hardships, with one resident expressing hope for a better year in 2024.

However, the situation remains dire, with Palestinians facing missiles and the aftermath of devastation. The health ministry in Gaza reported that at least 21,978 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been killed, while 56,697 have been wounded in Israeli strikes since October 7. The latest figures include 156 Palestinians killed and 246 injured in the past 24 hours.

Israeli authorities are concerned that the International Court of Justice (ICJ) may accuse the country of committing genocide in Gaza. A senior legal expert handling the matter has reportedly warned the military leadership of a “real danger” that the court may issue an injunction compelling Israel to cease its military activity in Gaza.

As the world celebrated the new year with fireworks and festivities, Palestinians in Gaza continued to flee for their lives, seeking refuge amidst ongoing Israeli airstrikes. The Gaza Strip’s core region, designated as a safe zone for evacuation, has witnessed repeated bombardments. Nearly 85% of the population is being relocated, with many residing in tents in Rafah, facing challenges in obtaining sufficient food and necessities.
