KARACHI: In honor of the martyrdom day of the late Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, a public holiday is being observed across Sindh today (December 27).
The Caretaker Chief Minister of Sindh approved a public holiday yesterday, resulting in the closure of all government, private offices, local councils, and provincial government administrative offices today.
Benazir Bhutto, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan, was assassinated on December 27, 2007, during a suicide attack at an election rally in Rawalpindi. Her untimely death marked a significant and sad moment in Pakistani history as the nation mourned the loss of a charismatic leader who had twice held the office of Prime Minister.
Born on June 21, 1953, at Karachi’s Pinto Hospital, Benazir Bhutto hailed from a renowned political family in Sindh. She was the daughter of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, the founder of the PPP (Pakistan People’s Party), and the granddaughter of Sir Shahnawaz Bhutto. Benazir’s mother, Begum Nusrat Bhutto, had Iranian-Kurdish roots, and she stood as the eldest among her four siblings.
