GENEVA: A number of member nations of the World Health Organization (WHO) have submitted a draft resolution that asked Israel to respect international obligations in protecting humanitarian workers in Gaza, Western media reported on Friday.
According to the Hamas-run health ministry Israel’s relentless bombardment on Gaza has killed 17,487 people, mostly women and children.
The text of the draft resolution is likely to be reviewed on Sunday during a special session of the WHO’s Executive Board aimed to discuss the health situation in Gaza.
The resolution is proposed by Pakistan, Algeria, China, Egypt, Bolivia, Lebanon, Indonesia, Iraq, Malaysia, Jordan, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, Qatar, Turkiye, United Arab Emirates and Yemen.
Palestinian representatives have observer status in the UN health body and are also signatories to the proposal.
Member nations voice concern about catastrophic situation Gaza
The member nations have expressed concern about the catastrophic humanitarian situation in the occupied Palestinian territory, including east Jerusalem, and Israeli military action in the Gaza Strip.
They asked Israel to protect and respect medical and humanitarian workers carrying out medical duties, as well as hospitals and other medical facilities in Gaza.

WHO spokesman Christian Lindmeier has told media that Gaza’s health system is about collapse and could not afford to lose another ambulance or a single bed in the hospital.
He warned that the situation is getting more and more worse day by day. Earlier, the United Nations’ humanitarian agency OCHA had said that only 14 hospitals in the Gaza Strip were functioning.
