BEIJING: President Xi Jinping conveyed a congratulatory message to a UN Special Commemorative Meeting on the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, emphasizing the centrality of the Palestinian issue in the Middle East. Xi Jinping stressed that the Palestinian-Israeli conflict’s root cause is the overdue realization of Palestinians’ legitimate national right to establish an independent State of Palestine.
Highlighting the hard-learned lesson that sustainable security requires protection for all, Xi Jinping urged urgent action from the international community. He called on the UN Security Council to fulfill its responsibility by pushing for a ceasefire, safeguarding civilians, and ending the humanitarian crisis. Resumption of Palestinian-Israeli peace talks should occur promptly, based on the principles of realizing Palestinians’ right to statehood, existence, and return.
China, Xi Jinping affirmed, consistently supports the just cause of Palestinians to regain their legitimate national rights. The fundamental solution lies in establishing an independent State of Palestine with full sovereignty, based on the 1967 border, and east Jerusalem as its capital. Xi Jinping advocated for meeting the economic needs of Palestine and ensuring the living necessities of its people. The international community should provide increased development assistance and humanitarian support.
Emphasizing the importance of maintaining the right direction in peace talks, Xi Jinping proposed convening a more authoritative international conference for peace at the earliest. He highlighted China’s Global Security Initiative, asserting that disputes between nations should be resolved through dialogue and consultation. China will continue advocating for fairness and justice, promoting peace talks, and providing humanitarian and development assistance to Palestine.
As a permanent member of the UN Security Council, China commits to collaborating with the international community to build consensus for peace. The goal is to realign the question of Palestine on the path of the two-state solution, seeking a comprehensive, just, and durable resolution at the earliest.
