SRINAGAR, Occupied Kashmir: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has announced a complete shutdown in Indian illegally-occupied Jammu and Kashmir on Friday.
The protest is in response to the posting of a blasphemous video by an Indian student depicting Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Additionally, the shutdown aims to denounce illegal arrests, the booking of seven Kashmiri students under draconian laws, dismissals of Kashmiri government employees, and property confiscations.
In a statement, the APHC urged the people of the occupied territory to actively participate in the strike, making it a resounding success. They have also called for protest demonstrations on Friday against the offensive video posted by a non-Kashmiri Hindu student.
Tensions escalated after students at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Hazratbal, Srinagar, staged a massive demonstration following the derogatory video about the Holy Prophet (PBUH). The Indian police, under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), booked seven students from the Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology for celebrating Australia’s victory against India in the World Cup final.
The repressive measures continue, with the authorities terminating Kashmiri government employees and seizing the properties of individuals associated with the ongoing freedom movement. The APHC’s call for a shutdown reflects the escalating frustration and opposition to the oppressive actions in the region.
