JEDDAH: The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has expressed commendation for the Islamic Solidarity Sports Federation’s (ISSF) creative initiatives and outstanding efforts in fostering unity, harmony, and friendship among member states. The accolades were shared during the 12th session of the ISSF’s Executive Committee and General Assembly meeting held in Riyadh.
Chaired by Prince Abdulaziz Bin Turki Al-Faisal Bin Abdulaziz, President of the ISSF and Minister of Sport in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, who also holds the position of Chair of the 5th Islamic Conference of Youth and Sport Ministers. The meeting was also attended by Ambassador Tarig Ali Bakheet, Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian, Cultural, and Social Affairs at the OIC.
In his address at the General Assembly, Ambassador Tarig Ali Bakheet commended the wise leadership of Prince Abdulaziz Bin Turki Al-Faisal Bin Abdulaziz for enabling the ISSF to achieve significant successes and advancements in sports development within the Muslim world. He affirmed the General Secretariat’s commitment to enhancing coordination with the ISSF through the Department of Youth and Sport, working towards the objectives outlined in the OIC Plan of Action for the Development of Sports and the OIC Youth Strategy, particularly in the realm of sports.
OIC Appreciates Role of Saudi Arabia’s Efforts in Youth and Sports Development
Ambassador Tarig Ali Bakheet also applauded the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s significant efforts in youth and sports development, acknowledging the nation’s commitment under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and the Crown Prince, Prince Mohammed bin Salman. He recognized the Ministry of Sport’s dedication to implementing resolutions from the 5th session of the Islamic Conference of Youth and Sports Ministers in September 2022 and its support for the activities of the General Secretariat.
Highlighting the dire humanitarian situation faced by the Palestinian people, Ambassador Tarig Ali Bakheet drew attention to the severe challenges, including the loss of innocent lives of Palestinians, particularly women, children and young people, due to actions by the Israeli occupation authorities.
