KARACHI: The PML-N has completed the initial round of talks with the MQM-P and other parties in Sindh for a joint strategy to contest the upcoming general elections and run the country’s affairs afterward.

These ongoing developments are of great importance not just to the politics of Karachi and Sindh but also to the whole country after the PPP – once the countrywide force – has been witnessing a shrinking vote base, which is now mostly concentrated only in rural Sindh.

It is reported that the subcommittees set up by the PML-N and the MQM-P to discuss and finalize proposals on various subjects completed their assigned tasks, including the most immediate target– how to go for seat adjustment in the upcoming elections, according to media reports.

In the next stage, the two parties will hold a meeting in Islamabad to finalize the future line of action before the top leadership can approve it.

PML-N’s Efforts in Balochistan

The PML-N has assigned the task of coordinating the elections affairs in Sindh to Khawaja Saad Rafique and in Balochistan to Sardar Ayaz Sadiq.

Party supremo and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif has already visited Balochistan, a trip which saw several prominent political leaders joining the PML-N with progress being made on seat adjustment for an electoral understanding with Balochistan Awami Party (BAP).

Nawaz Sharif is likely to visit Karachi soon to formalize the arrangement between the two parties, as the PML-N wishes to gain a foothold in Sindh, and the MQM-P wants a comeback after internal fissures saw it losing public support.

On Sunday, the MQM-P leaders pledged that they would see how the PPP was going to form the next government in Sindh, vowing to deliver a blow to the party in the 8 February elections.
