Girls School Burnt in Gilgit Baltistan to Reopen This Week

GILGIT: Authorities in Gilgit-Baltistan have started restoration work, including painting the Brogi Girls School walls, which were burnt by unidentified men in the Darel area of district Diamer, Gilgit-Baltistan (GB).

A Pakistani journalist, Mubashir Zaidi, tweeted that authorities have started repainting girls’ school and planning to reopen it on Friday. According to previous reports, unidentified arsonists set on fire the Brogi Girls School building in the early hours of Tuesday and later kidnapped the security guard, which prompted police to initiate an investigation.

Furthermore, Chief Secretary Gilgit-Baltistan, Mohiyuddin Wani, said that the unidentified men committed the act and kidnapped the school’s security guard. He added that the attackers would be brought to justice and said that education is every girl’s right.

In this regard, Chief Secretary Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) said that the Deputy Commissioner (DC), Commissioner, DIG, and SSP of Chillas and Diamer have been tasked with safeguarding every girl’s right to education.

In addition, hundreds of students with their parents staged protests against the attackers after the school was burnt down. Therefore, the Chief Secretary of Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) announced that the school would be reopened within a week after a team of officers and engineers assessed its condition.
