RIYADH: Sudan’s army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have committed to facilitate humanitarian assistance and implement trust-building measures, a joint statement by Saudi Arabia, the United States, and the regional African bloc Intergovernmental Authority on Development has said, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Tuesday.
According to the SPA the talks in Jeddah focused on a narrow set of objectives – to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid, ensure ceasefires and other confidence-building measures, and find a permanent cessation of hostilities.

both sides reaffirmed their obligations under the May 11, 2023 Jeddah Declaration of Commitment to Protect the Civilians of Sudan.
The army and the RSF gave individual commitments to facilitating the passage of humanitarian assistance to both parties.
Mediators regret two sides failed to reach on ceasefire
The mediators regretted that the two sides not reached an agreement for a ceasefire, the statement said, and called them to put the interests of the Sudanese people first, lay down their weapons, and engage in talks to end this conflict.
Earlier the United Nations (UN) issued a grave warning expressing deep concern over the deteriorating situation in Sudan’s western Darfur region.
The crisis has resulted in the displacement of over 5.7 million people in Sudan, with more than 25 million, over half of the population, now in urgent need of humanitarian assistance.
