ROME: Pope Francis has announced that he would attend the crucial COP28 climate conference that will start in Dubai on November 30, Western media reported on Wednesday.

“I will go to Dubai, UAE and stay for three days there”. It will mark the first time that a pope will participate in a COP conference, since they started in 1995.

He told Italy’s state-run RAI television in an interview that he is likely to be in Dubai, UAE December. 1-3. The COP 28 summit runs from Nov. 30 to Dec. 12 in UAE.

In Dubai, he is expected to drive home his appeal for action to curb global warming and environmental issues.

In a document on Oct. 4, he appealed to climate change deniers and politicians to have a change of heart, adding they cannot gloss over human causes while the earth “may be approaching the breaking point”.
