KARACHI: Several armed robbers looted a private bank in Shadman Town neighbourhood here to get away with more than Rs 8m a day earlier.
Initially, the police said four gunmen carried out the robbery, however, SIU SSP Junaid Shaikh later confirmed that six robbers got away with Rs 8.7m as the security guard didn’t put up much resistance.
The robbers — who came on three motorcycles — assaulted the bank’s security guard and managed to flee with the security guard’s weapon with impunity.
A heavy contingent of police arrived at the scene with Sindh Caretaker Interior Minister Brig (retd) Haris Nawaz reprimanding the authorities over the absence of police in the area.
The minister directed the police authorities to submit a report on the incident.
